DIRECTORS


D. S. Blaise Williams III, Ph.D., MPT is the Director of the VCU RUN LAB. Dr. Williams specializes in three-dimensional biomechanics as it relates to injury and recovery from running and landing injuries. Dr. Williams has spent the last 15 years studying runners and how running athletes move and get injured. His research is aimed at understanding and enhancing running mechanics as it relates to injury and performance. Clinically, Dr. Williams enjoys working with runners and running athletes at all skill levels.

Health & Human Performance_R Lee FrancoR. Lee Franco, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences. His primary research interests include the role of physical activity on endothelial function and adipokine concentration and their relationship to the metabolic syndrome in weight challenged populations. Other areas of interest include skeletal and myocardial alterations associated with myocardial volume overload, including myosin heavy chain distribution and lactate transporters.

IMG_2120Bhushan Thakkar, PT, MS is a third year PhD student at the VCU RUN LAB interested in the development and validation of clinical prediction models to assist in decision making with total knee arthroplasty. His secondary interests are lower extremity running biomechanics and measures of symmetry.

Her primary focus is on the co-ordination of the foot, ankle, knee and hip. She is also interested in the effects of cross-training on runners’ biomechanics.

Her areas of interest include the interaction of lower extremity biomechanics and physiology as it relates to running performance and injury. She is also a dedicated runner and provides local runners and athletes with three dimensional gait analysis and running assessments.
