Research Interests

Garten's research centers around his interest in blood flow regulation during exercise and how this regulation is altered in response to both negative (e.g. prolonged sitting, poor sleep quality, high sodium intake) and positive stimuli (e.g., exercise training). In addition, Garten's research focus is also linked to identifying and reversing the causes of advanced vascular aging and exercise intolerance in populations at-risk for cardiovascular disease with a specific focus on the importance of oxidant-antioxidant balance.
