The mission of the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences is to advance the understanding of the critical importance of physical activity and promote healthy lifestyles for the state, nation, and world.
The department offers programs that prepare students to pursue careers that utilize exercise interventions for both healthy and diseased populations and/or careers designed for students who wish to enter a health care-related field (that does not require licensure, certification or registry status).
We offer a Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education and Exercise Science with two concentration options: Exercise Science and Health Science. The department also offers 4+1 Accelerated Bachelor's to Master's degree program, where qualified students can earn both the B.S. in Health, Physical Education, and Exercise Science and M.S. in Health and Movement Science in a minimum of five years.
We also offer two different graduate degree programs: M.S. in Health and Movement Sciences and Ph.D. in Rehabilitation and Movement Science. Each program offers unique and challenging opportunities to qualified candidates both in the classroom and in research.
We also offer two certificate programs: Undergraduate Post-Baccalaureate Health Sciences Certificate and Graduate Post-Baccalaureate Health Behavior Coaching Certificate. These certificate programs are designed for students who have already received a baccalaureate degree and wish to pursue their undergraduate pre-health sciences requirements at VCU.
